Perhaps he'll catch his second wind yet, but the 2024 season was one where White's trajectory clearly turned downward. Although White remains one of the NFL's most competent passing-down backs and can probably offer some degree of rushing utility, the Buccaneers tired of White's gliding, borderline passive style of running between the tackles, especially when Bucky Irving offered a contrasting alternative. Irving runs with zero hesitation and maximum aggression, whereas White seems to cautiously tread in comparison, as if waiting for some clarity that never appears. Indeed, White is clearly more comfortable in space than in traffic, and as long as that's the case it will be difficult for him to take snaps at Irving's expense, no matter whether it's a rushing or passing situation. If Irving were to miss time then White likely can plug back in as a three-down starter like the role he played in 2023, but probably not in any other 2025 scenario.
