It's unfortunate that Spears has been dealt rather poor injury luck in his football career to this point, because when healthy he might be one of the NFL's most elusive threats from scrimmage, including as a pass catcher. Knee injuries were a major long-term concern and perhaps the primary reason Spears fell to the third round of the 2023 draft, so the fact that Spears suffered two concussions in under two months in 2024 might loom larger than it would for most players. With that said, Spears has been productive in his two NFL seasons and was one of the most elusive running backs of distant memory at Tulane, so if Spears' durability cooperates he could play a central role in the Tennessee offense, even with Tony Pollard remaining the clear starter. The Titans likely intend to run a ground-based offense in Cam Ward's rookie year, if only because Tennessee lacks developed pass-catching targets at the moment. The Titans have made substantial offensive line investments both of the last two offseasons and might soon see a payoff for the efforts. If so, a healthy Spears should provide Tennessee with an explosive sixth-man sort of threat off the bench, both as a runner and pass catcher. As much as Pollard will remain the starter, Pollard himself might have been a bit overworked in 2024, and Spears is capable of picking up that slack.
