Last year was supposed to be the year where Stevenson took a dominant lead in the New England backfield, as the Patriots gave the former fourth-round pick a four-year, $36 million contract extension before the start of the season. It was a massive disappointment, then, how Stevenson instead went through what was likely the worst season of his NFL career. It wasn't all truly awful -- Stevenson's per-carry rushing numbers were decent enough given the incredibly dysfunctional state of the New England offensive line - but Stevenson's seven fumbles were a ghastly figure. It was a drastic measure for the Patriots to bench Stevenson in the final two weeks of the season for Antonio Gibson, but seven fumbles will dictate that level of desperation. Fumbling has been an on-and-off issue for Stevenson in the NFL, so even on his extended contract Stevenson needs to show the Mike Vrabel coaching staff that he won't fumble like he did in 2024. Stevenson otherwise poses unique fantasy upside due to his uncommon combination of balance and power with passing-down viability, so hopefully he gets his fumbling issues in order. Stevenson will likely watch his playing time dwindle again if the fumbling pops back up, but if he gets it together Stevenson can be part of the story of how the Patriots offense rebuilt itself.
