Khalil Herbert

Now in his fifth season out of Kansas and Virginia Tech, Herbert has settled in to the NFL as a journeyman rushing specialist, though one who occasionally catches attention for his elusiveness with the football. That happened more often earlier in Herbert's career, when he split the Chicago backfield with David Montgomery, but it was only in 2023 that Herbert had just strung together a three-year run where he produced 1,775 rushing yards on 364 carries (4.9 YPC). Herbert has never produced as a receiver, however, and there might be more passing-down work up for grabs behind Jonathan Taylor than carries. Herbert will need to hold off rookie fifth-round pick D.J. Giddens for the carries behind Taylor, and they both need to worry about Tyler Goodson taking most of the passing-down work after Taylor. There is reason to suspect Herbert is Indianapolis' second-best pure runner at running back, however.
