Sherwood was primarily a special-teams contributor for the first three years of his career, stuck behind the combination of Quincy Williams and C.J. Mosley on the depth chart. However, Mosley was sidelined for the majority of the 2024 season due to toe and neck injuries, which allowed Sherwood to log 992 defensive snaps and 158 total tackles. The Jets were confident enough in what he did to cut Mosley and give Sherwood a three-year, $45 million extension. His role is nearly unquestioned heading into 2025 as a result, so 125+ tackles appears to be in play again. To maintain the level of production in future years, Sherwood will need to prove himself in coverage and become more consistent as a tackler, though the Jets appear to be confident in his ability to do so.
