Few running backs in NFL history come close to the raw athletic ability of Guerendo, who at 6 feet, 220 pounds has blazing speed (4.33 40) and elite explosiveness (41.5-inch vertical, 129-inch broad jump). It's such a shame, then, that Guerendo may be one of the most fragile RB prospects in recent memory. He had horrendous injury luck for all but one of the past six years, at one point in college suffering hamstring tears two years in a row before suffering a Lisfranc injury the third year. In his 2024 rookie year, Guerendo missed time at various points with hamstring, groin and foot injuries, and in the season finale against Arizona he suffered an MCL sprain and ankle sprain in the same leg. As if to make all of this more tormenting, Guerendo has real skill in addition to his ridiculous athleticism - he runs with power and is likely an above-average receiver - but it just isn't clear he can ever stay healthy to realize his upside. For now, Guerendo will remain a boom-or-bust backup to Christian McCaffrey, after the 49ers traded Jordan Mason to Minnesota in the offseason.
