Sanders' fall was the story of the draft, with various theories posited as to why, but in a nutshell, his slide to the fifth round means the league perceives his raw talent as not overwhelming enough to overcome his flaws, making him a backup, at best. Sanders was a highly accurate collegiate passer, leading the nation in completion percentage (74.0) last season at Colorado, though his precise ball placement usually needed a clean pocket. He's a good pocket passer but, according to scouts, lacks anticipation, with merely adequate arm strength. He also doesn't have elite athleticism or speed and takes too many sacks. Even so, Cleveland's QB situation still gives Sanders a chance to start. Undersized and without an elite trait, Dillon Gabriel, the Browns' third-round pick, does not appear formidable. And free agents Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett are simply fall-back options until Deshaun Watson is healthy. On the other hand, if that trio vastly outshines him in camp, Sanders could be cut as the team has little invested. The range of outcomes is wide, and Sanders' upside might be limited to a game-manager role anyway.
