The Rams used a rotation at free safety in 2024, and Lake was a primary beneficiary. After playing nearly exclusively in the slot in 2023, he played regularly in the box, at free safety and in the slot last season. The result was an expanded role and breakout performance, highlighted by 111 total tackles, five passes defensed and two sacks. The tricky part of Lake's performance was that he primarily excelled against the run but has yet to establish himself as reliable in coverage. That could result in Kamren Curl and Lake swapping safety spots in 2025, with Lake playing more regularly in the box with Curl operating as a more traditional safety. If the Rams are unwilling to do so, Lake is likely to be in line for a significant step back in fantasy production even if he remains a key member of the defensive unit.
