Statistically speaking, Pickens' third NFL season in 2024 looked a lot like his second, with the main difference being three missed games in December because of a hamstring injury. He thrived right before the absence while catching passes from Russell Wilson, averaging 4.8 catches for 81.2 yards and 0.5 TDs on 7.7 targets over a six-game stretch (compared to 4.3 catches for 60.5 yards and no TDs in Justin Fields' six starts beforehand). It seemed like Pickens got on the same page as not only Wilson but also coach Mike Tomlin and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, following some September/October drama regarding effort and snap counts. There's potential for more drama ahead, with Pickens entering the final season of his rookie contract after the Steelers traded for fellow big-play-specialist DK Metcalf this offseason. They don't have much else at wide receiver, but it may nonetheless be difficult to give both Metcalf and Pickens the quantity of deep passes they're accustomed to seeing. Smith has been one of the most run-heavy playcallers in the league for some time now, and presumed new Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has lost a lot of his famous arm strength. A trade would probably be best for Pickens' fantasy value, especially if the alternative is an unhappy version of the mercurial wideout in Pittsburgh this year.
