Kareem Hunt

Re-signed to Kansas City on a one-year, $1.5 million contract, Hunt gives the Chiefs a stable option in the backfield who knows the Andy Reid offense and almost never fumbles. The Chiefs were desperate to find such stability when Isiah Pacheco suffered a fractured fibula in September, so they were content with Hunt as starter given the circumstances. What's less clear is whether the Chiefs have as much use for Hunt if the circumstances were less desperate -- if Pacheco and free agent pickup Elijah Mitchell are fully healthy, for instance, would there be a function for Hunt to serve at that point? Mitchell is a major durability problem and Pacheco is on his way to the same distinction, so it would be surprising if Hunt were to leave the Chiefs before 2026, but Hunt doesn't have much from-scrimmage explosiveness left with age 30 coming up in August.
