Metellus is listed as a safety, but his actual usage hardly fits neatly into a single category. The majority of his snaps last season came in the box as a hybrid strong safety/box linebacker. That allows him to come close to matching the most prolific tacklers among defensive backs around the league. Metellus' other primary home is at slot corner, where he showed considerable improvement in coverage in 2024 when he allowed only one touchdown while holding quarterbacks to a 93.8 quarterback rating when targeted. All that adds up to a player with a proven track record and a key role in the Minnesota defense.
