Smith made some confounding errors last season, especially in the red zone where he threw a league-high four interceptions, but he also didn't get much help from a Seahawks' gameplan that ranked near the bottom of the league in motion, play-action, under center, pressure and rushing rates and continually put the burden on Smith alone to make something out of nothing. Smith's career-high 4,320 yards was built on volume (578 attempts, 4th in NFL), and while he's still an accurate passer, his 78.7 on-target percentage (2nd) was inflated by an average target depth that fell to a three-year low 7.2 yards, suppressed in part, particularly late in the season, by a quest to earn a salary bonus for completion percentage (6.6-yard aDOT last five games). He got his bonus (career-high 70.4 completion percentage) but also finished with the most interceptions since his rookie year (15). That's how it went. The Raiders traded for him in March and gave him the contract the Seahawks refused, reuniting Smith with coach Pete Carroll, his biggest champion. Smith won't get as many attempts in Las Vegas, as Chip Kelly's offense will run through rooking RB Ashton Jeanty, and there aren't many weapons in the passing game. Brock Bowers is the league's best tight end, but the ordinary Jakobi Meyers is the No. 1 WR followed by little else, unless second-round pick Jack Bech develops. Smith might not match last season's QB14 finish because of decreased volume, but he'll still be relevant in two-QB leagues.
