Akers remains a free agent as of May, and with two Achilles' tendon tears in his injury history he will always face an uphill struggle to see NFL playing time from this point. Akers should get a chance to make some roster, though, even if he is only signed right before or even during training camp. Akers will only be 26 in June, and when healthy he still flashes standout athleticism, particularly as a power runner. Akers got his foot into the door in Minnesota last year - his second stint with the team, and acquired by trade from Houston - and as the year went on Akers continued to establish himself as Minnesota's power-rushing specialist behind Aaron Jones. It's possible that Akers could appeal to some team in the same role in 2025, though Akers ever being a starter or passing-down viable seems unlikely by now.
