The Packers took Carlson in the sixth round of the 2023 draft and gave him a full year as their kicker, before moving on last summer when veteran Brandon McManus became available. Carlson then spent time with the Jets and 49ers, converting 13 of 15 field-goal attempts but just 12 of 15 PATs. The PATs were also an issue for Green Bay in 2023, when he missed five in the regular season and another in the playoffs. Carlson was with the Jets for their offseason program this year, but they released him in mid-June and signed Harrison Mevis instead, setting up a camp competition between Mevis and Caden Davis.
