Treylon Burks meant more to me than just a fantasy roster spot. He was a chance. A belief that talent would win out. That upside was real. That sometimes, patience pays off.
I watched him get drafted with all the hype in the world. I waited through the injuries, the setbacks, the depth chart battles. I held onto him when others laughed, when the points didn’t come, when the updates were nothing but disappointment. And I still believed.
Dropping him wasn’t just a roster move. It was letting go of something I truly hoped for. I stared at the screen longer than I’d like to admit before clicking the button. It felt like betrayal. Like giving up on a friend who just couldn’t catch a break.
I don’t know if he’ll ever break out. I hope he does. I really do. But I won’t be the one holding him when it happens. That hurts more than I can explain.
I’ll miss him, not for what he was, but for what I believed he could be.
