Why the Jets Should NOT Bench Justin Fields
1. He’s Being Let Down by Coaching
No, Justin Fields isn’t an elite passer. In fact, his passing has been near the bottom of the league. But he is one of the best running quarterbacks in football — and the Jets are refusing to use that. No designed runs, no read options, no rollouts. You can’t just drop him in the pocket on every down and pray he escapes pressure. His athleticism is his weapon — and right now, they’ve taken the sword out of his hands.
2. He’s Playing Scared of Turnovers
Fields looks terrified to make a mistake. You can see it in his throwing mechanics — he loads up like he’s trying to fire a bullet before defenders can react, which actually gives them more time to track the ball. That heavy wind-up also kills his ability to pump fake or adjust mid-throw. And now, it seems he’s scared to fumble too. The result? He’s not scrambling, not improvising, not being Justin Fields. His value — both as a fantasy QB and an NFL starter — comes from his legs, and he’s barely using them.
3. His Confidence Is Shot — and Benching Him Makes It Worse
Fields has never been in a stable situation. The Bears failed him. The Steelers benched him during his best stretch. Now, with the Jets, he finally had a chance — reunited with one of his closest teammates and given a fresh start. Sure, Garrett Wilson being locked down by Pat Surtain II and then missing time hasn’t helped, but when they’re both on the field, you can see the chemistry.
Benching Fields for 40-year-old Tyrod Taylor doesn’t fix anything. It just kills what’s left of his confidence. You’re 0–7 with him? Fine — be 0–17 with him. There’s zero reason for this team to chase meaningless wins. Let Fields play out the year, let him build something. You signed him for two years for a reason — give him the full shot. If he flames out, so be it — you’ll have the No. 1 pick and a clean slate.

Fields will get the start, tyrod didn’t do anything spectacular in the 2nd half. The O-line is terrible and fields just needs to make better decisions knowing he doesn’t have more time in the pocket. He doesn’t use his legs enough as he should

They need to quit trying to make him a passing qb and let him run first, pass second. Would open so much up for Breece and Wilson and Taylor would get open easier
