Selected in the fourth round of the 2020 draft, Perine saw his time with the Jets come to a close last August after failing to claim a spot on the 53-man roster. The running back bounced around throughout the 2023 campaign, spending time in both Philadelphia and Miami before ending up on the Chiefs' practice squad. With Isiah Pacheco, Jerick McKinnon and Clyde Edwards-Helaire also in the team's backfield mix, Perine will likely need to have an impressive training camp and preseason in order to earn a Week 1 roster spot.
