Now back in Dallas after one year in exile, Elliott returns for his age-29 season to find that his former successor has left behind the entire workload he and Elliott once fought for. The old Elliott vs. Tony Pollard debate has no clear winner, but Pollard is in Tennessee now anyway, leaving only the likes of Rico Dowdle, Royce Freeman and Deuce Vaughn for Elliott to hold off. Even at two years older than the last time around, Elliott should prove superior to the Cowboys' other running backs, especially when it comes to blocking and pass catching . Vaughn barely played after being drafted in the sixth round last year; Dowdle is a 2020 UDFA who had just seven career carries before last season; Freeman has been nothing more than a passing-down specialist and special teams player since 2019. Elliott thus finds himself in good position for a starting job on a team that averaged a league-high 29.9 points per game last season, though the Cowboys could run into some trouble up front while counting on rookies to replace LT Tyron Smith (Jets) and C Tyler Biadasz (Commanders).
