I highly doubt the cap goes down. The NFL wouldn't punish teams for something they have no control over. If the cap decreases there would be a significant amount of teams that would have to cut good players and not enough teams to sign those players. No way the league let's that happen

@Mason76 that rumor is false. Daks side have not offered a 5 year deal of any kind, even with 45 mil in the 5th year. Dak and his agent haven't engaged other than to say they want a 4 year deal

Doesn’t really matter whether he actually got that offer or not. The point is, as good as he’s been, Dak isn’t a market setting player.

@Mason76 look at the top ten highest paid QBs, only a couple "deserve" to be on that list. It's not about setting the market, it's next man up. That's how QB contracts go. And no, that wasn't even offered to him. All of the reports this week were proved false. They haven't even been engaged in talks because Dak wants 4 years and that's the only thing holding this up.

Next man up and setting the market is basically the same thing. Wilson just signed for 35mil per, now Dak is next man up which would imply that he would want more, which in turn would do what....reset the market at QB
@Mason76 next man up means you won't make significantly less than the top contract. Resetting the market is significantly making more than the previous guy. Last year 32 mil for Dak was reasonable, now it's not even a discussion point. If Dak makes 35, it's because Wilson reset the market. Dak and his agent are in no hurry. If he plays on the tag, it's only means 31.5 mil guaranteed plus more for his future contract because mahomes and Watson will make more than Wilson. If mahomes gets 40 mil, daks floor is now above Wilson because 40 is the new ceiling. That's why there aren't any significant talks.

Mahomes is worth every penny he gets but I wouldn’t be surprised if he take a bit of a Tom Brady approach and signs a smaller contract to keep that team as talented as they are
